My name is Marissa Zayed, and I am a junior at the University of Southern California studying Journalism and History with a minor in International Relations. It has always been my childhood dream to work for a fashion magazine such as Vogue. I am currently working as an Assistant Editor for the Daily Trojan in the Arts & Entertainment section. I always thought I wanted to be a writer, but as I develop my journalism skills in the Annenberg Media Center, Daily Trojan, and my classes, I am discovering that I deeply enjoy creating visual media content and working with video and audio. I did a lot of video and audio editing for the media center this semester, and I have the opportunity to improve these skills next semester working for the Rural Women’s Assembly in South Africa. Though I was primarily interested in Arts & Entertainment reporting, I have dedicated my semester in my “Journalism 307” class to reporting on gun violence in Chicago, and reported on many current events, crimes, and social issues in the media center. I am excited to work on a project about gender-based violence for the Rural Women’s Assembly that will take me 14 weeks beginning in January. This semester in my “Navigating Media and News in the Digital Age” class, I experimented with blogging, Photoshop, and creating a full PSA video. This website is my personal blog with the projects I completed this semester, and I intend to keep adding to it as I develop my skills more.
